Venturing Extreme 2008
We are currently registering units for the 2008 Venturing Extreme to be held at the Whitewater Express Base Camp in Ocoee, Tennessee June 29-July 4.
Venturing Extreme is a Woodruff sponsored off site high adventure program geared toward male and female Venturers aged 14 years to 20. Activities are conducted by either an independent outfitter with experienced wilderness guides and Woodruff staff members who are present for all activities. All activities are challenging and are designed to be action packed adventures.
Cost for Venturing Extreme is $175 per youth and $160 for adults.

Webelos, Wolves and Bears can enjoy the experience of Boy Scout Summer Camp at Bert Adams Scout Reservation this summer with several sessions to choose from. They will not only sleep in the same set up as the older guys but they will enjoy many fun and exciting activities including but certainly not limited to: swimming, crafts, shooting sports and of course advancements, advancements, advancements! The Atlanta Area Council needs volunteers to help with several maintenance and improvement projects along with general cleanup at each of our camps. These special workdays are an excellent opportunity to do a good turn for the camp and to enjoy fellowship with other Scouters. Please plan on joining the team!
What to bring: Basic hand tools, work gloves and clothing appropriate for the weather, cup, water bottle and medical form.
We will Provide: Coffee, water, bug juice, snacks and fellowship will be provided throughout the day. The Council will also provide lunch and dinner for all volunteers who register in advance. A t-shirt will also be provided to each participant
Who should come: adult volunteers, friends and Scout youth 16+

Council Cub Scout Day Camp Kick Off Meeting
The 2008 AAC Cub Scout Day Camp Kick-off will be held March 20th at 6pm in the Staff Conference Room of the Volunteer Service Center at 1800 Circle 75 Parkway, SE. Whether you are a Day Camp Director, Day Camp staff member or just an interested party, you need to attend this meeting to get all the news on Day Camps across the council. You will be able to pick up some helpful information to aid you in producing the best Day Camp your district has ever seen as well!

Project C.O.P.E. 2008
The Atlanta Area Council invites all Boy Scout Troops, Varsity Scout Teams, Venture Crews, Explorer Posts and Learning for Life Groups to come out and enjoy a weekend of Challenging Outdoor Personal Encounter at the Project C. O. P. E. course at the Robert W. Woodruff Scout Reservation near Blairsville, Georgia.
Project C. O. P. E. is a national program of the Boy Scouts of America. The program is composed of group initiative games, trust events, low-course events, and high-course events. Some activities involve a group challenge, while others develop individual skills and agility. Participants climb, swing, balance, jump, rappel, and devise solutions to a variety of problems. Most participants achieve much more than they imagined they could.
The next scheduled weekends are March 28-30 and April 18-20. The cost is $30 per participant. You should be at least 13 years of age by January 1 of the year of participation or have completed seventh grade.

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Scouts from the Atlanta Area Council will assemble at Powers Island, where the Chattahoochee River and I-285 intersect, to attack and help clean out some of the alien and very invasive plants in the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. Scouts will work with National Park Service personnel to identify and destroy these invasive plants.

Wood Badge Training
Wood Badge is the premier adult leadership training program for the Boy Scouts of America. It teaches contemporary leadership and team development skills in an outdoor setting.
Wood Badge helps you become a better leader and it is fun and rewarding! So why go to Wood Badge? First, every youth deserves a well trained leader. Second, you will be better prepared to serve your Scouts and their families.
You don’t have to be a super camper either, just know the very basic camping skills and have completed the outdoor leader training for your level of program participation.
When is the next opportunity to attend? There are three opportunities to attend Wood Badge in 2008. Spring session begins March 31st and ends on April 5, it is a weeklong session. Summer session consists of two three day weekends, August 1-3 and August 22-24. Fall is also a two three day weekend session beginning September 26-28 and concluded October 17-19. You must attend all six days to complete the practical training.

Pioneer Days at Cub World
The Spring Cub World theme has been announced and it is Pioneer Days! Saturday April 12 at Cub World located on the grounds of Bert Adams Scout Reservation from 9am till 4pm, the Pioneer spirit will be busting out all over! For $9 per scout/sibling you will receive a patch, games, activities and crafts galore. Adults can get a patch for $5. BBs and Archery are available, too. Bring the whole family, a sack lunch and your water bottle. Pre-Registration is recommended to guarantee all program is available for your scout. Legacy of Honor: The Impact of Eagle Scouts
The Georgia Tech Business Network invites you to join them for an evening with a panel of distinguished Atlanta business leaders who are not only Ga. Tech graduates but Eagle Scouts, too. Topics of discussion will include how achieving the Eagle rank has impacted their personal and professional lives.
This seminar will be held Thursday April 24th from 6pm till 8:30pm at the College of Management, Ga. Tech Auditorium 200. Alvin Townley, author of Legacy of Honor: The Values and Influence of America’s Eagle Scouts, will be the moderator. Tickets are $15 for non- GTBN members, $10 for GTBN members and $5 for students.

EMS: Effectively Motivating Success
The Atlanta Area Council College of Commissioner Science is set to bring you some of the best quality training available in one place at one time for a very low price! April 25-27, 2008 at Woodruff Scout Reservation, you will have the opportunity to fellowship, build your team and learn more about your role in the Unit Service function of the District. Our theme for this coming year is EMS: Effectively Motivating Success! A successful unit is the battle cry of the Commissioner staff and the primary focus of our training. There will be new course offerings along with some of the old standards, cracker barrels, fun and lots of networking opportunities. Rally the team and make your plans to attend this fabulous training weekend.
Registration for this course is $35 and that includes all food, course materials and a course specific patch. You have the option of tent camping with your team for free or staying in the dormitory style staff lodge for a mere $20 per person per room.
